Snap is a camera company, providing messaging, communication and a content distribution platform via mobile devices. Its flagship Snapchat application created the trend towards ephemeral mobile communications, where messages can only be viewed for a matter of seconds before being wiped clean from the servers. This mode of communication forces attention and more closely replicates in-person conversation. Through its Discover platform, Snapchat also serves as a mobile channel for branded content by established media companies. Snap also sells a $130 video-capturing sunglasses – its first hardware product. Goldman and Morgan Stanley took the Company public in March 2017 (NASDAQ: SNAP).
